Pickleball Coming Soon to Brookhaven

Brookhaven residents will now be able to enjoy a new activity. In addition to the our amazing parks and tennis, residents are now able to participate in one of the fastest growing sports in America: Pickleball!

Two courts are are lined in two of our park locations, Briarwood and Ashford Park.  Starting in February residents will not only be offered tennis lessons, classes, and camps with Up4Tennis but for Pickleball as well.

What is Pickleball?

You’ve probably heard the term “pickleball,” but you might not know exactly what that is.

Don’t let that intimidate you, though. Pickleball offers a fun and exciting experience for players of any skill range or athletic ability. As long as you are playing with players of approximately equal skill, the game can be enjoyed by pretty much anyone.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong that is played on a miniature court with a wiffle ball.

The game is played on a court that has the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court, which is about one third the size of a regular tennis court. A net that is 34 inches high, which is two inches shorter than a standard tennis net, separates the court. The game is played with hard paddles and a small wiffle ball that travels about one third the speed of a tennis ball.

We can’t wait to get you on the Pickleball courts with Up4Tennis!

Hi there! I saw this post so we went to both parks to try to play pickleball and the blue lines (which I think were supposed to be the pickleball lines) were not accurate. The court was much bigger than typical pickleball and didn’t include the kitchen. Are you sure those two parks are lined?

Hi Mallory, I am sorry I am just not seeing your response. The city resurfaced the courts and now only Lynwood Park and Murphey Candler have pickleball.
